U.S. House Passes Bill Recognizing Dental Professionals as Emergency Responders

Earlier this month, the U.S. House passed a Bill to include dental professionals in the “emergency response providers” group. This means that dentists would assist in health matters related to natural and man-made disasters, including acts of terrorism. As a dedicated dental provider, it is good to know that we can now be there in a timelier manner to assist those in need.

Along with providing individuals with emergency dental treatments, we can help identify victims of traumatic events through their dental records. In times of crisis, families awaiting news of their loved ones can gain information a bit faster now that more emergency personnel are on site. In addition, treatments for those who suffer dental injuries can be quickly assessed and initiated in order to provide optimal results and care. This can help prevent further damage to surrounding teeth and reduce the amount of visits to complete treatment. Some of the dental procedures that may be necessary include dental implants, bonding, and porcelain veneers. During the consultation the patient’s teeth are examined and the damaged is assessed in order to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
