Caring for Dental Implants

2 minute read

Men and women who visit my Beverly Hills practice in order to restore missing teeth with dental implants must be aware of proper care post-treatment. Because the natural tooth root has been replaced, it is important to follow instructions in order to prevent infections or complications from occurring. This can also help ensure that the surrounding teeth remain in good condition.

Just as you would brush and floss your teeth normally, it is of great importance to remember to do so at least twice a day when dental implants are in place. Special floss may be useful when caring for your implants and abutments. A soft bristle tooth brush with a bent handle can allow you to better move and clean the teeth and implants. In addition, the use of an oral irrigation device can be beneficial for deeper cleaning.

Along with daily care, it is imperative to maintain regular dental visits twice a year to undergo professional cleanings. Most patients may need a special mouthwash that is intended to reduce bacteria in the mouth in order to prevent infections. One of the most important things to remember is to refrain from smoking and eating or drinking anything that could stain the teeth as these can also stain your new implants.

If you have further questions regarding the care you should take with your dental implants, please feel free to contact my Beverly Hills practice.
